Save Money. Travel More.

How can you save up to travel more? What are some helpful tools we use most while we travel? Check out the resources below!

Note: We may receive a small commission, at no additional cost to you, when you make a purchase from the affiliate links found on our site. We appreciate your support!

Personal Security

Personal security should be a top priority for any traveler. We do SO MUCH on our personal and mobile devices! We might connect to the free Wi-Fi at the hotel or airport, but be careful! This could easily make your personal data more vulnerable to unscrupulous individuals! We always use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) as an extra precaution, especially while traveling.

Cell Phones

Speaking of staying connected, we are always on our phones when we travel. We are looking up directions to our hotel, contacting our loved ones back home to tell them we arrived safely, or checking the weather...the list goes on! Cell phone data/roaming charges can be outta control!

We suggest buying a local SIM card at your destination with a data plan. They're usually MUCH cheaper than what you'd pay for roaming from your home country. Just make sure your phone is unlocked by your mobile service provider first, BEFORE trying this! If your phone is under contract, you may have to buy out the rest of your contract to make this happen.

In the meantime, why not save money on your cell phone plan even at home and just not even HAVE a contract? Paying upfront for 12 months we are able to pay only $15/month per person! We don't bother with unlimited data plans because we are usually on Wi-Fi (again, see Personal Security above). But even if we DID want it, the Unlimited Data plan is only $30/month! (as of date of this writing, in February 2023)

Money saving trick: You'll get $15 in renewal credit by using our link and save moolah on your monthly cell phone plan. Now you can actually save up for those overweight baggage fees! lol I kid, I kid...

Banking

We always recommend getting cash out of a reputable bank's ATM while traveling, rather than stand-alone ATM kiosks, and money exchangers at the airport, if at all possible. However ATM fees can really add up! But some banks will actually reimburse you those ATM fees! And if you're traveling for an extended time or to multiple countries, those fees can really add up!

Money saving trick: Get your ATM fees refunded at the end of your statement period, even ATMs that are out-of-network.
